Actualmente nos encontramos viviendo una pandemia, debido a el SARS-CoV-2, el virus responsable de la enfermedad coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19), que está afectando a cientos de miles de personas a nivel mundial. Dado que la tasa de intervenciones quirúrgicas urgentes y de intervenciones programadas no diferibles es alta, es probable que tanto pacientes positivos como negativos, necesitarán intervenciones quirúrgicas o ingresos para tratamiento médico durante este brote.
La obligación de los cirujanos será proporcionar una atención de calidad y que logre los mejores resultados para nuestros pacientes. Por todo esto, creemos que es importante el poder contar con una serie de recomendaciones para el manejo de pacientes ingresado en zonas hospitalarias "limpias" de dicha enfermedad para evitar contagios entre pacientes ingresados, así como para protección del personal sanitario a cargo de la atención médica.
En este trabajo, nos hemos basado en la literatura publicada y en la experiencia clínica para escribir unas recomendaciones para los equipos quirúrgicos que manejan pacientes durante su estancia hospitalaria.
We are currently in the middle of a pandemic, due to SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19), which is affecting hundreds of thousands of people worldwide. Since the rate of urgent surgical interventions and non-deferrable scheduled interventions is high, it is likely that both positive and negative patients will require surgical interventions or admissions for medical treatment during this outbreak.
In this situation, the challenge for surgeons will be to continue provide quality care that will achieve the best results for our patients. For all these reasons, we believe it is important to have a series of recommendations for the management of patients admitted to hospital areas that are "clean" of the disease in order to avoid preventable infections among admitted patients, as well as for the protection of the health staff in charge of medical care.
In this paper, we have based on the published literature and clinical experience to write some recommendations for the surgical teams that manage patients during their hospital stay.
